Netiya Seders and Learning Center – A Tu B'Shevat Seder:
Breaking Ground and Harvesting Justice

Come explore the connections between this ancient festival and our local food system. Join Netiya and our partner organizations for an innovative twist on the traditional Kabbalist Tu B'Shevat Seder with blessings over locally-sourced fruits, herbs and nuts with a focus on self-reliance, hunger, and the county-wide food justice movement in LA. Before and after the Seder there will be a menu of urban gardening and Do-It-Yourself workshops (everything from backyard beekeeping and composting, to make-your-own-grape-juice for kids!). There will be bite-sized discussions with lead organizers in the city that offer their analysis of today's food system with real ideas to advance change that we hope will probe open the mind, and root the Jewish soul in our collective pursuit of justice. To advance sustainability at the Big Tent event, we will collect all of the remaining food from the festival and donate it to the Venice Food Bank.

PJ Library
We’re going to be making wood pendant necklaces with the kids. We will also do “book nook” -poster and blankets in the yurt…storytelling.

NCJW/LA
Will have leaf templates and ask people to color them in and then put their name on it and take them home. They can make as many as they want.

Temple Kol Tikvah
Do it yourself grass monsters. You put grass or chia seeds on a piece of tuille and then dirt, tie it up, trim it. Poke screws through the tuille for eyes and bring it home. In a few days, the grass grows and you have a home made "chia pet style" grass monster.
